Udong is the former capital of the country between 1618 and 1866. A number of kings, including King Norodom, were crowned in Udong. Phnom Udong is approximately 40 kilometers northwest of Phnom Penh along National Road Nº 5, a mountain topped with the spires of stupas rears from the plain like a fairytale castle.
