Begin your journey with a hotel pickup in Siem Reap and travel one hour through the Cambodian countryside toward the vast Tonlé Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Upon arrival at the pier, board a local boat and set off toward the remote village of Kampong Kleang, located about 55 km east of Siem Reap. As the largest floating community in the Tonlé Sap region, Kampong Kleang offers a more authentic and less touristy experience compared to nearby villages such as Kampong Phluk.
Marvel at the impressive stilt houses, some rising up to 10 meters high, forming a striking “forest” of elevated homes. During the wet season, water levels rise dramatically, submerging the lower levels and transforming
the entire village into a water-based world. As you cruise through the village, gain insight into the local way of life, where fishing plays a central role in the community’s economy. Observe daily routines, floating structures, and the deep connection between residents and the lake.
After your exploration, return by boat to the pier and relax on your transfer back to Siem Reap.
Visits to Kampong Kleang depend on seasonal water levels of Tonlé Sap Lake and may not always be possible.
